@FlyingLineman Can ...
@FlyingLineman Can u explain the purpose of the long insulator when approaching the wires? Are the lines live? But the? men live because they are not grounded? How does this work? Thanks.

Please, remember ...
Please, remember safety first, always. A few posts have highlighted how this company has asked/permitted linemen to violate safety rules. Yes, this is true, it does happen. Your life is in your hands - do not under any circumstances choose what you know you should not be doing. Your #1 job is returning home to? your family at the end of your shift. Do it if you just gotta - but do it safely, please.

Gratitude! Your comprehension of the physics involved eclipses my feeble attempts. May all who seek find your words and understand. Thank you for taking time to offer? illumination. (pun intended)

The arcing is ...
The arcing is continuous because you have A/C, not DC power. The? helicopter is charged and discharged 60 times a second as the power goes postive/negative. Best to think of the helicopter as a capacitor and then study how a capacitor behaves in an a/c circuit.

Yikes. Awfully ...
Yikes. Awfully close with? that tail rotor.

@Mozart2Vienna ...
@Mozart2Vienna Because the helicopter is exiting the "corona" which is around the wire. Basically the helicopter does not have voltage running through it. The same concept as a bird on wire, except? with a human, birds cannot sit on those wires because they carry in excess of 300,000 volts but a human can with the farady suit, as you can see in the video.

They have to? be ...
They have to? be bonkers

@Mozart2Vienna its ...
@Mozart2Vienna its simple when they approach the line they stick the rod out ao it energizes the helicopter. if they didnt it could arch and knock the helicopter out? of the sky and when the helicopter leavs they do the same thing.

That tail rotor ...
That tail rotor gets scary close to? the line
