Please, remember ... Please, remember safety first, always. A few posts have highlighted how this company has asked/permitted linemen to violate safety rules. Yes, this is true, it does happen. Your life is in your hands - do not under any circumstances choose what you know you should not be doing. Your #1 job is returning home to? your family at the end of your shift. Do it if you just gotta - but do it safely, please.

The arcing is ... The arcing is continuous because you have A/C, not DC power. The? helicopter is charged and discharged 60 times a second as the power goes postive/negative.
Best to think of the helicopter as a capacitor and then study how a capacitor behaves in an a/c circuit.

Because the helicopter is exiting the "corona" which is around the wire. Basically the helicopter does not have voltage running through it. The same concept as a bird on wire, except? with a human, birds cannot sit on those wires because they carry in excess of 300,000 volts but a human can with the farady suit, as you can see in the video.
